Along with a slew of accomplishments, Guerrero racked up a lengthy catalog of great matches. He”s more known for his main event status with WWE but still had a handful of strong performances while trying to break through during his stint in WCW.
Eddie Guerrero missed most of 2001 with an injury. He returned following the WWE Draft in 2002 and immediately targeted Rob Van Dam. Guerrero not only wanted RVD”s Intercontinental Title but he wanted to prove that he had the best frog splash in the business.
Guerrero dethroned RVD for the title at Backlash and in subsequent rematches. That changed on this episode of Raw when RVD regained the gold in a memorable ladder match. It remains one of the best ladder matches in Raw history.
When Eddie Guerrero arrived in WCW, it was right around the start of Monday Nitro. In just his second match on the show, he faced off against Chris Benoit, a man who he”d be synonymous with for the rest of his career.
Guerrero and Benoit would go on to have better matches, in WWE as well, but this was too pivotal to leave out. It was a standout bout in the early days of Nitro and was unlike most of what fans had on TV at the time.
The lone tag team match on this list. It showcases the hallowed “Smackdown Six,” a group of stars who helped make Smackdown must-see television with their tremendous performances each week.
These three teams were consistently having stellar matches that made the tag division special in the era. This was arguably their finest moment, stealing the show on a night that featured the first Elimination Chamber match. It also saw Eddie and Chavo win their first titles together.
7 WCW: Eddie Guerrero vs. Shinjiro Otani – Starrcade 1995
WCW”s biggest annual event was Starrcade. In 1995, they tried the novel concept of having some of their guys go up against members of the New Japan Pro Wrestling roster. It led to some interesting matches including Chris Benoit vs. Jushin Thunder Liger and Randy Savage vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan.

Though Benoit/Liger was fantastic, it was just about matched by the outing between Guerrero and Shinjiro Otani. They had an incredible back and forth encounter. Unfortunately for Guerrero, Otani won to give NJPW a 3-2 lead in the battle.
There is no more iconic match in the career of Eddie Guerrero. He was a guy who was never slated to be a top star. Kevin Nash once famously named him in a group of, “vanilla midgets.” None of that mattered on this fateful night.
Guerrero took on the monstrous Brock Lesnar, who was near the top of his game. The two told a fantastic David vs. Goliath style story. Goldberg, Lesnar”s rival at the time, got involved and assisted Guerrero in achieving his dream. It wasn”t clear, but as Eddie used to say, “If you”re not cheating, you”re not trying.”
This is pretty much the definition of a hidden gem. Not many people ever talk about this match but it deserves more love. Though Nitro had been around for nearly 10 months to this point and had some good matches, it was lacking that one true stellar contest.
It was a rare WCW case of a guy like Guerrero was given the chance to hang tough with a legend like Ric Flair. He matched him hold for hold and only lost because Flair”s manager Woman got involved. This is the kind of thing to use the WWE Network for.
Another case of members of the “Smackdown Six” shining brightly. The feud between Eddie Guerrero and Edge waged for a while with good matches coming at SummerSlam and Unforgiven.

However, they saved their best for this No Disqualifications bout on an episode of Smackdown. Edge won with a DDT off a ladder in what might go down as the best match in Smackdown history.
3 WCW: Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko – Uncensored 1997
The in-ring classics that Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko put on while part of ECW is what helped them get signed by WCW. It only makes sense that WCW would let them do their thing on their turf.
They easily stole the show on this card, putting on a classic PPV opener. It”s about 18 minutes of fantastic wrestling, only slightly ruined by nWo involvement for a lame finish. Still, 98% of this match is awesome.
When word broke that Brock Lesnar was leaving WWE for the NFL, some believed that was the only reason Eddie Guerrero won the WWE Title. They figured his defense against Kurt Angle at WrestleMania would make him a transitional champion.
However, Guerrero kept proving doubters wrong. He had a phenomenal outing with Angle that ranks as one of the best WWE Championship matches in WrestleMania history. Guerrero outsmarted Angle, loosening his boot on an Ankle Lock and letting it slip off. With Angle confused, Eddie rolled him up to retain in a classic.
1 WCW: Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. – Halloween Havoc 1997
It”s saying a lot, but there”s a very strong argument to be made that this is the best WCW match in the “90s. There”s a reason that on WWE Network”s Superstar Picks series, both Sasha Banks and Adam Cole selected it among their favorite matches.
Rey Mysterio”s mask was on the line against Eddie”s Cruiserweight Title. This expertly blended some stiff hard-hitting spots like a particular Eddie powerbomb with some insane aerial offense from Mysterio. Rey scored the win with an incredible counter as the two put on the best match in either of their storied careers.
