Experience Fun: Dance Outreach in Schools

Dance Plus Ballroom has been working in conjunction with Education Outreach founder Ron Clark who developed the Dance Club program over 40 years ago.  Throughout Columbus, schools have worked with us to develop dance programs that introduce grade school children into adulthood social skills, respect, confidence, courtesy, and appropriate group behavior. While students learn how to interact appropriately with their peers and adults, they also learn how to fast dance and slow dance to modern, popular music. Instructors also teach line dances found at social functions such as weddings or dinner parties.

Dance Club has been introduced and has grown in Worthington Schools, Dublin, Upper Arlington, Columbus School for Girls, Wellington, Grandview, and Archdiocesan Schools.

While each program length is different, the Dance Club program often culminates in a social and dinner function where students show their parents and loved ones the skills they have learned. Many of the parents have been through the classes themselves, and are happy to spend this quality time with their children.

Dance Club in Upper Arlington

The Dance Club in Upper Arlington hosts a six-week program for two grades, the seventh and the eighth graders. The program is hosted at Jones Middle School, although all Upper Arlington middle schools do participate. In the classes, students are taught to be young men and ladies that can appropriately interact with each other in a social setting. As the program allows students to meet each other prior to attending Upper Arlington High School, students feel more comfortable transitioning into adults with greater responsibilities.

Shamrockin’ with Dublin Schools

The Dance Club in Upper Arlington hosts a four-week program for all the Dublin School District sixth graders. The club meets twice a week until its final Dance which is hosted at an outside venue. Each week, participants rotate which schools they participate with as well as the school location. In the classes, since there are four Dublin Middle Schools, typically there are between 150 and 300 participants. In addition to dancing, students are taught to be young men and ladies that can appropriately interact with each other in a social setting. They have fun meeting participants from other schools, as they learn popular and modern dances.

If you are a parent who has questions about the cost and the times of the program, please contact your Dublin School District representative. If you are one of the representatives, feel free to contact us.

Dance Club CSG, Wellington, and St. Charles

The Dance Club of Wellington, St. Charles, and Columbus School for Girls is a six-week collaborative program for fifth and sixth grades. The program location is rotated between each school, and all participants have an opportunity to meet each other. In the classes, students are taught to be young men and ladies that can appropriately interact with each other in a social setting. These participants are taught essential social skills that transition them into adulthood such as shaking hands and introducing themselves. In the meantime, they enjoy learning how to fast and slow dance to popular, modern music.
